Rep. Van Roy speaks out about smear ads

Last week, Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin Foundation, groups that support abortion on demand and the gruesome partial-birth abortion procedure which is banned nationwide, started running a dishonest ad campaign against me telling outright lies about my positions and voting record. These ads have been running on Green Bay radio stations and on the Green Bay Press Gazette website, and soon, they will begin sending these attack ads by direct mail to homes in my district. These ads falsely claim that I support imprisoning every woman in this state who has an abortion, even those who are victims of rape or incest.

I am extremely proud of my pro-life voting record, but the truth is I never have and never will suggest that any woman should ever go to prison for having an abortion. Wisconsin law explicitly protects all women who undergo an abortion from being penalized in any manner, and I fully support this law. Planned Parenthood and NARAL know that women are protected by this law because it participated in and endorsed the passage of it back in 1985. A legal analysis by the non-partisan Legislative Council confirms this law is still valid today, and no woman could be prosecuted, imprisoned or punished in any way for having an abortion in this state. There are no efforts underway by anyone in the legislature to remove these legal protections which are in place for women.

Although these groups and I may disagree on the fundamental sanctity of human life, it does not mean these groups can lie to the public about my positions. Clearly, they don’t have the decency to tell the truth; only time will tell if they have the decency to cease their dishonest campaign of lies.

Rep. Van Roy is a Republican and represents the 90th Assembly District.

I will skip the tug of war and go straight to a deeper more fundamental question: If women who have an abortion won't go to prison then why call abortion murder?

Geez Stephen, you are a recording. I will skip the tug of war and simply state that Wisconsin statutes exempt the mother from culpability. Why are you so hung up on this? Here's the deeper more fundamental question: why is there such a callousness in our society toward the preciousness of a tiny human life?

To the politics: You best think about the methods used by Planned Parenthood and NARAL to play the tug of war. Fallacious and slimy. Not good. JE

Hey I totally agree, and that Wisconsin statute is exactly what you're talking about right? The statute defines justice as ignoring a mother who murders her child. Pretty callous I must say.
