    Ms. Pyzyk:

[See Fox News video] Thank you so much for making Rossman Elementary School safe from little nine-year-old geology buffs. Clearly this was the beginning of a disturbing trend line. If a small child is willing to use a hammer to get at the "sparkly" insides of a rock today, is it such a leap to imagine her using that same hammer to smash a jewelry store window tomorrow to get at the sparkly diamonds in the display case? Besides, the attitude of inquiry that such curiosity might arouse in her can only lead to trouble. Far better to keep them dull and docile.

And then of course there is the safety concern raised by a child possessing a hard, heavy object like a hammer. Clearly this a danger to all. And while hammers are not the only hard, heavy objects out there, with your diligent watchfulness over the safety of the young charges in your care I am sure that you long ago banned the equally dangerous baseball bat—aluminum or wood—from the playground. Far better that they just skip rope.

No wait, of course that would never do. A rope can be used to tie someone up or even to be used to make a noose. Maybe they could play tag.

But what am I thinking? All that wild running around is sure to cause cuts and abrasions. And we certainly don't want to encourage the spirit of competition that such a game engenders.

Perhaps you could just have the children quietly walk through a garden smelling the flowers and composing free verse about how they feel about the experience. But then there is the danger of bee stings, and after all, some children are allergic. And of course any outdoor activities expose the children to the harmful rays of the sun and not all parents are careful about applying sunscreen.

No, the only prudent course is to keep the little dears safely inside, isolated from every conceivable harm or danger. Hopefully that will include keeping them safely away from paranoid school officials.

So thank you again for suspending this dangerous child. Thank you for making her an example that will instill fear in the hearts of her classmates. Thank you for the ridicule to which she will now be subjected. Most of all, thank you for not working in Appleton where my eight-year-old grandson—who also likes to look at rocks—attends school.

Tag is already on its way out:  I'd also note that keeping the children indoors increases their likelihood of being exposed to concentrations of radon gas. Perhaps some sort of large Tupperware container is the answer. You can't out-ridiculous the safety zealots... -jjg DailyScoff.com

    J. Gravelle (Tue May 06 08:20:18 2008)

Fox News did a real good job of making Danielle Christenson and her family look like sweet innocent victims of supposed "harsh" school policy. However, people should be aware that the school may not have been so harsh considering the Christenson family is well known in this community as a family with a known past of violence and mental illness.<br><br> I should know I have met every member of that messed up family, and that woman is sick in the head, I kid you not. Obviously she was out for revenge....who calls the news instead of taking the issue up with the school board or the superintendent?<br><br>Do a background search of Christina Christenson and you will find charges she is a convicted felon, divorced twice, sued pick n save, and convicted of DWI and 4 charges of disorderly conduct. Hardly the innocent lady we all think she is. Check for yourself: her bday is 09-03-1970. If the mother is so screwed up do you think her child might be screwed up too? Parents have a major influence on their children, and I would have to imagine there is so much more to the story, whose to say that if Mommy is so violent that little Danielle wouldn't be violent too. Clearly the school was acting on more information than fox news makes it out to be.<br><br>Ohh wait, that was something they mentioned in the article. Don't be so quick to judge a girl with rocks and a hammer and her family, as sweet and innocent. It seems that the school probably called the police once they knew that they would have to get the mother involved, not because the child had a dangerous tool in her posession.
