Mark Gundrum on women in government in Iraq

A recent USA Today story on speaks about women in government in Iraq. I met Jim Michaels, the reporter who wrote the article, and went with him to parliament when he was working on it. In the article are photos and quotes by female members of the Iraqi parliament that took classes I gave on good governance and effective legislating. One part of the story references the classes, and another sentence/quote is by one of the women in one of my classes, Zakia Hakki, a former judge in Iraq. (Zakia lived in Virginia before going back to Iraq to serve in parliament . . . she showed me her VA driver's license.) From the article
Since then, the women have sought out classes on how to legislate offered by U.S. and Western advisers.

….If you raise your hand, no one will call on you," says Zakia Hakki, a member of parliament and a former judge.
The woman in the photo with the long coat and head scarf, in between the two rows of men sitting in chairs, also participated in at least one of my classes/seminars.

While I was involved with varied and exciting Rule of Law work throughout this tour, teaching the courses was, without a doubt, the most rewarding.

Captain Mark Gundrum, 432nd Civil Affairs Unit of the Army Reserves; a Republican, Gundrum represents the people of the 84th Assembly District.

    COMMENTS

"Rule of Law"? WHOSE law? Much as it's fashionable to decry Christianity, it's a fact that this nation WAS founded on the principles of God's law, as laid out in the Bible.

"Rule of Law"--don't Muslim nations, even the most inflammatory, already have a rule of SHARIA law. Which teaches nice things like killing infidels, complete veiling of women, chopping off of hands as a punishment for theft, etc...

Whose law is going to rule? God's or man's?
