Yesterday, the babies lost.
Julaine Appling, Director of the Wisconsin Family Council, shares her profound sadness at the 11 – 3 vote taken by the yesterday to support a 2nd trimester abortion clinic in the UW-affiliated Madison Surgery Center. She notes:
The plan is not yet a done deal. At least one more board needs to vote, and maybe as many as 3 other boards (we haven't heard anything official on any vote other than the one taken tonight). We've heard that the Madison Surgery Center is scheduled to vote this Friday, February 6; but we've not seen anything in print on that to date. Appling urges prayer and a call to the Madison Surgery Center today, 608-890-2200.
I spent from 12:00 this afternoon until just after 6 p.m. at the hearing held by the Authority Board of UW Hospital and Clinics. The board was scheduled to vote today on the plan to begin doing late second trimester abortions at the jointly operated, UW-affiliated Madison Surgery Center.
Time prevents me from giving you all the details, but the bottom line is, after nearly 3 hours of testimony from people on both sides of the issue, the Board ultimately voted 11-3 to proceed with the plan. We all lose on this vote--but the babies will pay the highest price, to be sure. From Senator Glenn Grothman:
MADISON: The University of Wisconsin-Madison in a new low-- even for it -- voted Wednesday evening to go forward with plans to abort babies up to 22 weeks after conception at their clinic on Park and Regent.
“This is unbelievable,” said Grothman. “No other clinic in south central Wisconsin would touch something so barbaric. Entire European countries including Germany, France, Russia, Italy, Norway and Switzerland who allow abortions in the first three months wouldn’t consider doing something so horrific as painful late-term abortions. It is amazing every other medical facility in this region takes a pass on these barbaric procedures, but the UW says ‘The Public be Damned and the Babies be Damned -- We’re Going Ahead!’”
“I am certain that February 4, 2009, will be a day in which many of Wisconsin’s citizens and alumni will never forget,” said Grothman, a UW alumnus. “I applaud the doctors and medical personnel who were brave enough to come forward to express their opposition to these offensive plans and many more need to come forward.”
“The fight of course has just begun,” noted Grothman. “We must continue to apply pressure to the UW Hospital and the UW itself since every one of the board members affiliated with the UW -- led by its Chancellor Biddy Martin -- voted for this repugnant procedure. I would like to thank the three board members who were civilized enough to vote against this plan as well as the other dozens of medical clinics in the south central area who will not do what the UW wants done to these youngsters.” To start, call the Madison Surgery Center today, 608-287-2200 to register your objections.

COMMENTS
I thought late-term abortions were in the third trimester, not the second?

So Stephen, an abortion at 22 weeks would be ok with you?

Jo (Thu Feb 05 07:05:05)
Whether 2nd or 3rd trimester, I'm sure it makes no difference to the baby. It's dead either way although probably more painfully in the 3rd trimester.
So Wisconsin needs to sink to savagery so we can kill our unborn to possibly help our lucky-to-be-born alive humans?
When carrying a child it's usual to feel them moving at around 4 months during the gestation period. This would be an unviable human being according to proponents of abortion. Nowadays 5 month babies can be helped to live. Why would we want to kill them at that age?
My old dictionary defines viable as being "Able to live." A human being is not viable until they're around 5 years of age if you use that standard. None would survive under that age if they weren't cared for by adults. Is the UW's next move to kill the incapacitated elderly, followed by more of the same on the totally disabled in the name of science? They're not viable, either without caregivers.
Does anyone remember the movie, "Soylent Green?" This isn't too far down the road from that.
