    Budget hearing: WEAC weighs in

3:02, Appleton. A regional Education Action Council representative used figures to suggest teacher salaries were not fair, in particular, beginning teacher's salaries. Referencing the economy, I'm assuming, she mentioned there was not a good time to keep an unfair law. It does not mean union negotiators should not consider community conditions. They are now part of what an arbitrator could consider. Please keep collective bargaining reform in the budget (Read, get rid of QEO.)

tHE President of The Green Bay Education Association takes us back to the days of the frontier to illustrate the value of education in Wisconsin. Education has "significant positive impacts on the individual..." and "impacts the safety of our communities and the overall well being of our citizens." "This is why the overall fiscal situation [of our schools] is so troubling." "No doubt, there are challenges in areas of our economy." But (to paraphrase)we cannot operate without adequate resources. "Please support Governor Doyle's budget." (Read, get rid of QEO.)

An employee of the Appleton Area School District urged equal treatment of education support professionals concerning pension contributions. The budget would allow pension contributions when support professionals work 440 hours of the total 1320 a full time teaching professional works in a year, as opposed to the current standard of a minimum of 600 hours in a 1320-hour year. The speaker got the attention of panel members when she suggested State Representatives should be credited for 2/3 of their years of service, while State Senators were credited for 100% of their years of service.

    COMMENTS

Did the person complaining of low teacher wages meet the person who said they only work 1320 hours a year ?

All along, we have been told that teachers work 2 jobs because of low wages.
I now think it is because they are bored with so much free time on their hands.
1320 hours is 7 months for a normal person
