Jack Voight announces candidacy for Co. Exec.

APPLETON, WI—Former State Treasurer Jack Voight announces his candidacy for the Office of Outagamie County Executive in the 2011 spring election.

“I am excited about the opportunity to campaign for the office of Outagamie County Executive and to represent the citizens of Outagamie County. I will bring to Outagamie County citizens my State Treasurer’s experience in innovative management and leadership of a state agency, my knowledge of local government and my ability to interact effectively with the public,” Voight said.

In his campaign for Outagamie County executive, Jack will share how the county must reduce spending by reviewing and prioritizing the needs of county residents, how to create jobs with smart economic planning and how he will interact professionally with the county board and officials at all levels of county government, towns, villages, cities. Voight indicates, “I will begin by listening to the concerns and insights of the citizens of Outagamie County. I want to create an effective and efficient county government.”

Voight began his public service career as a 10 year Appleton City Alderman from 1983-1993, held the position of City Council President from 1992-1993, and was elected three terms as State Treasurer, serving from 1995-2007. As State Treasurer he administered the $3 billion Local Government Investment Pool, $300 million Unclaimed Property Program, and the State’s $2 billion College Savings Program-Edvest. During his 12 years as State Treasurer, Voight reduced the cost of state government by merging two cash management programs, returned over $100 million of unclaimed property to Wisconsin citizens, and stopped welfare fraud in Wisconsin by replacing paper food stamps with a debit card program.

Jack Voight was born and raised on the family’s dairy farm near Shiocton, Center Valley and Dale. He graduated from New London High School and UW-Oshkosh, served in the US Army as a Vietnam sergeant, and has been the owner of Voight Insurance Agency since 1974. A lifelong Outagamie County resident, Voight was an active owner of real estate developments and a bank organizer/director of American National Bank of Appleton. Voight and his wife, Marty, have been married for 36 years and have two daughters and two grandchildren. The Voights have been City of Appleton homeowners since 1973.

Since the 2006 fall election, Voight has been active with his business, garden, Rotary and author of an Appleton second grade history booklet. Voight received the 2008 Friend of Education Award from the Appleton Association of School Administrators.
