    Is Rep. Hintz vulnerable?

If you read FoxPolitcs, you know that earmarks were used to encourage ('buy?') budget votes among Assembly Democrats.

I couldn't figure out why $500,000 for repairs to the Oshkosh Opera House showed up on the list of new earmarks that came out of Joint Finance's all night session May 28 - 29. Ok, Oshkosh residents have argued it's a worthy project. I'm sure it is. I'm not sure it's something I as a state of Wisconsin taxpayer should be paying, but be that as it may, is it a high priority in a budget that is fighting a $6.6 billion hole?

Ryan Gruber may have showered a bit of sunlight on the subject. It seems Gov. Gordon Hintz (D-Oshkosh) campaigned in 2006 on the basis of opposing a new garbage fee coming out of Madison. It's a bold promise:
As your representative, I'll hold Madison accountable for high taxes.
Hmmm. Seems to me this budget, voted for by Rep. Hintz after 5 AM Saturday morning, increased garbage fees from $5.90 a ton to a whopping $13 a ton (even more than originally proposed by Governor Doyle). Be reminded that that huge hike in garbage fees is all on the backs of Oshkosh taxpayers - and fellow property taxpayers around the state.

I didn't think Rep. Hintz was even a tad vulnerable. Is it a different story today? Or perhaps Rep. Hintz gets the last laugh - perhaps Rep. Hintz's support of the venerable Oshkosh Opera House in its hour of emergency need actually earned him just the support he needs for his next run at re-election.
