Kagen in GB tonight – AFL-CIO thinks it’s a rally

Rep. Kagen’s press release, via his web site, calls tonight’s gathering in Green Bay a “listening session.”  Whatever it is, bring your signs (will they be allowed?) and bring your responsible, well thought-out questions.
(GREEN BAY, WI) Congressman Steve Kagen, M.D. will continue his public listening sessions [emphasis mine] to discuss the health care reform legislation currently making its way through Congress.

    Monday, August 31st, 2009
    7:00 – 8:30 PM
    Green Bay Southwest High School
    1331 Packerland Drive
    Green Bay, WI

More events will be announced in the coming days.
A brief AP piece published Sunday calls it a rally, apparently as labeled by the AFL-CIO:
U.S. Rep. Steve Kagen, D-Appleton, will hold a health care reform rally in Green Bay on Monday night.

AFL-CIO members are encouraging their members to show up at the rally to support reform.

The meeting will be 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Green Bay Southwest High School, 1331 Packerland Drive. [Emphases are mine.]
Still no answer from Kagen’s local office or D.C. press office on whether or not last Wednesday night’s rally sponsored by several local unions and left-wing “advocacy groups” was officially a campaign event or a constituent event. It’s not among the events listed on his official congressional web site, so seemingly was not thought to be a constituent event. Did taxpayers pay for his transportation last Wednesday and were his D.C. aides on site?

    COMMENTS

OBVIOUSLY, Kagen and his ilk can get better ink if they have "support rallies" rather than actual town hall listening sessions. The point is they don't like what they hear so they simply change the audience.

Maybe it's time for Rep. Kagen to return to private practice.
