Compare Iwo Jima with the wind turbine battles?

Students outside of Springfield, Illinois have compared the service of our veterans at Iwo Jima with lifting up a wind turbine. Are you kidding me? How dare they. A student mural uses the well-known Iwo Jima image as a metaphor for our nation’s environmental struggle. The controversy is detailed here.
“(The) American soldiers in the original photograph — they were fighting and defending our nation in World War II, and it’s now our generation’s turn to defend the nation. Not necessarily militarily, but environmentally,”

“We thought it was an insult to the veterans,” said Lee Morgan, commander of Chatham VFW Post 4763. “I’m not a World War II veteran. If I was, I would be really mad or upset. Those guys fought for our freedom. I know that copying is a flattery, but something like that doesn’t need to be.”
I’m taken aback. The efforts are in no way equivalent. But not to worry; students were unconcerned.
The students who must walk by the mural every day don’t seem to have gotten caught up in the controversy.

“It seems like something the older people care about, not so much the students,” freshman Sara Hadidi said.

“I thought it was a nice blend of the future and a significant point in history,” senior Hugh Lahr said. “(The mural) represents what we need to do, and I don’t see how it could be offensive.”
Though controversial, the Iwo Jima-like mural – and Pearl Harbor Day - are good reasons to mention recent work of James Bradley, prolific author and historian, born and raised in Wisconsin and the son of John H. Bradley, who helped raise the flag on Iwo Jima. See today’s FoxPolitics commentary.

Ask the people in Calumet County, who must live near the wind farm, and whose lives are disrupted by it, how they feel about comparing a turbine to Iwo Jima...
