If you believe that one... I have a bridge....

Wisconsinites aren't too happy other states are raking in the special favors - leaving us to pay for them.
[In letters to Senators Feingold and Kohl] "Your vote is every bit as crucial as Senator Nelson's, so there is no reason to expect that you cannot give us as your constituents the same protection as he has obtained for his," they wrote.

Scores of Wisconsinites flooded the senators' offices with angry phone calls making similar demands, leaving aides scrambling to respond to concerns that Wisconsin was being left behind.

Addressing such criticism, Feingold and Kohl said they, too, fought hard for provisions that would benefit their state. They point to two specific areas in the legislation that they argue would help states including Wisconsin.

One provision would change Medicare reimbursement rates so that health care providers in rural states get more money for their services. It would also create a "value index" meant to reward quality over quantity in the health care system - an approach already taken by a number of Wisconsin providers.
So that's one tack. Claim to get more for Wisconsin. Then Feingold and Kind start promising the moon.
"If those unjustified provisions are included in the final bill, I intend to introduce legislation to eliminate them and save the taxpayers' money," [Feingold] said.

Rep. Ron Kind (D-La Crosse) promised to join him: "We're going to go back to Washington and try to shame them in [sic] taking those provisions out."

Kind predicted that moderate Democrats like him would find it more difficult to vote for a final health care bill that handed out special rewards to a handful of states at additional costs to taxpayers nationwide.
What chances do you give for any of that happening? Yeah... thought so.

Wow, Wisconsites are just as greedy as everyone else. Base human nature trumps high falutin' ideals like patriotism, compassion, the common good.

Johnnie's Christmas present is bigger, fancier, more expensive than mine. Never mind that I got a present too. Ah, that green-eyed monster envy.

Can one fault a politician for caving into the pork mentality when constituents are so focused on self?

So, as history has shown repeatedly, great empires always fall. Not primarily because of a greater or more advance competitor. But because of internal rot; a loss of public pride and shared concern for each other.

Greed...neither the Democrats nor the Republicans can claim the high ground here. It's an individual choice of character that apparently few politicians can find the fortitude to make. After all they are in office first and foremost for their own selves as well.

Today's blog is a tragic reminder of humanity's real essence. The underlying message of Christmas is a timely reminder once again.

Yes, internal rot, indeed. Dang it.
    Pray for America.

Rather than fighting for "our fair share" of the booty, I would prefer politicians fight for my right to keep what I have earned. By fighting over the spoils, we just ensure that the government slice of the pie continues to grow, even as that pie shrinks. The more time we spend on the fight to allocate, the less effort is spent in creating wealth.

More government, less wealth, less freedom. The REAL race to the bottom.

Remember, when your congressman "brings home the bacon," someone's hog had to die. And the pig you save, may be your own.

Now will we see and Democrat from the Wisconsin Delegation show some moral courage and stand up to this ethical shame? Will Kagen, Kohl or Feingold have the guts to stand up to say no to the transfer of millions of Wisconsin tax dollars to others states?

UNFORTUNATELY....probably NOT! I've written to each of them and what I get back is a "thank you for expressing your concerns". Nothing even close to letting me believe that they actually read my letter or will consider my opinion. I hope that eventually we will elect representatives who actually listen to their constituents rather than their party bosses. Remember ~ Kagen acknowledged that he knew his constitutents were against the bill but he thought it was good, so he voted for it. Once again...."father knows best - NOT!!!" Remember that in November when you cast your vote. This is supposed to be representative government not nanny care government.
