3/4/2010
Several great confabs coming up – no excuse for being uninformed
The WI Clean Energy Bill – broken out: Friday morning (tomorrow!) 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. at Citizens Bank, located at 205 East 4th Street, Kaukauna. Hosted by the Heart of the Valley Chamber of Commerce.
Michael Vickerman from RENEW Wisconsin will speak in support of the bill and a representative from WMC will present the fiscal impact the bill will have on the economy.
The public is invited to attend. There is no charge for attendance, but donations can be made at the door. Reservations are appreciated but not necessary. Call the Chamber office for more information at 766-1616 or visit www.heartofthevalleychamber.com.
3rd Annual WI Defending the American Dream Summit. Amazing. March 12 and 13th, Chula Vista Resort, Wisconsin Dells, hosted by Americans for Prosperity Wisconsin.
This year’s list of powerful speakers is amazing - meant to “inspire, educate and motivate you to help take our State back!” Those taking the podium will include Michael Reagan, Lord Christopher Monckton, Rep. Michelle Bachman, Herman Cain, Grover Norquist, the Wall Street Journal’s Steve Moore and John Fund, Joe the Plumber and Wisconsin’s own Vicki McKenna.
Registration is an amazing $39.99. For more information and to register, go here. AFP-WI expects the summit will sell out, so the sooner you and your buddies register, the better.
Seminar on the Constitution Saturday, March 13, 8:30am to 4:30pm, Fox Banquets, Appleton, hosted by the Fox Valley Initiative and presented by the National Center for Constitutional Studies.
The “must-attend” event will arm you with the knowledge necessary to fight back against the overreaching legislation of our state and federal governments. The day’s presentations look fascinating, including “The Perfect Plan of Liberty.”
A refreshing look at the solid political and economic principles from the preamble through the amendments to the Constitution. You’ll learn perhaps for the first time, how nearly every problem in America today can be solved by restoring these successful concepts.
Register here. The seminar cost is $20 per individual or $40 per couple and includes a 135 page study guide and lunch.
Candidate Forum, 1st Senate District Republican Primary Tuesday, March 9, 7:00 PM. Evergreen Bar and Grill – 7075 Morrison Rd., Greenleaf, WI; sponsored by the N.E.W. Patriots.
These N.E.W. Patriots are on top of it. They’ve put together the three candidates running in the 1st. Senate District Republican primary. Dave Hutchison (State Representative 1994-2000) Frank Lasee (State Representative 1994 – 2008) Jon Soyring (Businessman)
Yup, the Evergreen is out in the middle of nowhere, but a great, homey place – with lots of room. Tuesday is usually Pizza Buffet night – so arrive early and grab a bite to eat.
For more details, check out the N.E.W. Patriots web site; Email here with questions.
Terri McCormick at the Old Bavarian Wednesday, March 10, 8 – 9 pm, the Old Bavarian, 3025 W. College Ave., Appleton. Hosted by The Group.
The Group will continue its series presenting 8th Congressional District candidates; it’s Terri McCormick on the hot seat this month. The format is great – 30 to 40 folks attend; questions are easy to ask and encouraged.
No reservations required - just show up! For information, contact Brian Garrow.
Campaign for Liberty Political Action Conference – Wisconsin Saturday and Sunday, March 27, 28, Olympia Resort & Conference Center, 1350 Royale Mile Road, Oconomowoc. Sponsored by the Wisconsin Campaign for Liberty.
Confirmed Speakers include Ron Paul (Video Address), Yuri Maltsev, PhD, professor of Economics & Senior Fellow of the Mises Institute, Ed Thompson, State Senate Dist. 31 candidate and several other conservative state and congressional candidates.
For the extensive lineup of speakers and seminars, and to register, go here, then to the link after “View the event page here.” Cost is $15 via the web site, $20 at the door.

COMMENTS
The first conference on your list appears to be good with opinions on two sides of the issue. Vickerman is well worth listening to.
My first impression is that the rest are echo chamber presentations to reinforce opinions already set.

Better not let the men in white coats with the capture nets into the "Prosperity" meeting.

Billie (Thu Mar 04 09:13:18 2010)
Dean, your first impression is that the N.E.W. Patriots candidate forum is an "echo chamber presentation(s) to reinforce opinions already set." Permit an effort to create a more accurate second impression.
The N.E.W. Patriots is a non-partisan organization committed to re-establish the blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity. Liberty is the focus.
Forums are being sponsored monthly from January through August, with one or more forums devoted to each major state and federal office. Every announced candidate is invited to attend the appropriate forum. It is true that some candidates refuse to attend, apparently unwilling to face real questions from real citizens in a courteous and informational setting. A few do not even extend the courtesy of a reply.
None-the-less, nearly two dozen candidates have already appeared at N.E.W.Patriot forums or are scheduled to appear in the future. These include candidates running on the Republican, Democrat, and Independent tickets.
Mr. Monk Elmer (1st Senate District) and Rep. Tom Nelson (5th Assembly District)have declined the courtesy of a response. Rep. Zigmunt (2nd Assembly District) has suggested that we might travel to Madison to hear his views.
Dean, you are cordially invited to attend; bring your neighbors and friends. Join with the many who are preparing themselves to cast an informed ballot this fall.

Ron Zahn (Thu Mar 04 09:22:09 2010)
Well, I did a little checking and it seems to me that my first impression was right.
By the way I kinda think that calling a group "Patriots" suggests that people who disagree with you are not patriotic. Not true.

Dean Weichmann (Thu Mar 04 11:44:20 2010)
****Better not let the men in white coats with the capture nets into the "Prosperity" meeting.****
Well, this added a lot to the conversation. Are you of the opinion that anyone who disagrees with you is insane?

C.R. Stevenson (Thu Mar 04 10:01:59 2010)
Jo:
Thanks for giving us an update on the upcoming events involving the candidates and also the other "learning sessions" that will be helpful to getting informaition for the upcoming elections. It is difficult to keep up with all the events and you provide a great service to remind us of upcoming important issues and events. Keep up the good work.
Mike

Mike Thomas (Thu Mar 04 10:12:34 2010)
Thank you Ron Zahn, I will look into it further. Perhaps I will attend.

Dean Weichmann (Thu Mar 04 10:44:52 2010)
I will certainly NOT be attending the DAD summit, which is just the same old corrupt GOP in disguise. I looked into the FEC, the GAB, and cfis.wi.gov sites and I know what I'm talking about. The folks who are running this are not interested in true conservatives, such as Dan Mielke, and instead push-push for Sean Duffy, whom they (and large corporations) can control. It just doesn't inspire my confidence when I know Dan sent them his info, and they filed it in the trash. Or the fact that Sean is a lawyer (how many more of those do we need?) vs. Dan a farmer.
It seems just more of the same-old junk, when I see a Saudi oil company contributing to Sean's campaign, and when a GOP-sponsored "open" event in a certain county, tells Dan he has to take his stuff down!
Their "Dream" seems to be party power not true integrity.

Oh my Emily. Bummer.
