Get rid of all these piddly jobs programs

Sounds like a brilliant idea to me. And to Senator Grothman as well.
Madison: Senator Glenn Grothman (R-West Bend) is introducing a bill which removes Wisconsin’s corporate income tax on manufacturing, farming and research. The bill is in response to the Democrat CORE Jobs plan which is scheduled to pass in the State Senate Tuesday.

“It’s time to do something dramatic,” said Grothman. “Rather than micromanage the economy with tiny grants aimed at only green jobs, or only at manufacturers who send their poorer employees to college, or employers who want to work with the University of Wisconsin System, we can get rid of Wisconsin’s corporate income tax on manufacturing, farming, and research.”

Four years ago the Legislative Audit Bureau reported that the state of Wisconsin was operating a hodge-podge of 152 different programs to improve Wisconsin’s business environment. Nevertheless, Forbes magazine recently ranked Wisconsin 48th in business climate.

“The CORE Jobs plan is an embarrassment to the Legislature,” said Grothman. “After raising corporate taxes by approximately $130 million per year in one blow earlier this session, the Legislature has the nerve to scatter $10 million on 14 programs next year and think this will help. What about the $25,000 loans? That’s the size of a car loan. And what about the Skills Enhancement Program, which will educate people on access to child-care? Do people really think improving the business climate means hiring more bureaucrats to teach people about our sleazy Wisconsin Shares Program?”

Grothman’s proposal would begin in 2012 and immediately bump up Wisconsin’s business climate ranking. Estimates show that business taxes would be reduced by $100,000,000 per year.

“I call upon the Legislature to get serious about job creation and bring this bill to the floor in May,” said Grothman.
Grothman is a Republican, represents the residents of the 20th Senate District (West Bend), and serves on the Committees on Education; Judiciary, Corrections, Insurance, Campaign Finance Reform and Housing; Labor, Elections and Urban Affairs; Transportation, Tourism, Forestry and Natural Resources; Administrative Rules and Senate Organization as well as on the Select Committee on Clean Energy.
