Leinenkugel's launching - and so are the ads?

Numerous sources indicate Dick Leinenkugel will announce a run for U.S. Senate today - a week or two ahead of schedule. (Here's Friday's Politico story.)

Is it a coincidence - or have I just missed it in the past - is Leinenkugel - the Brewery - ramping up its advertising?

I've seen it on the Brewers Fox Sports station (Channel 40 in the Fox Cities). Do you remember seeing these ads on Brewer broadcast games last year or the years before that? Ok, so it's Jake and John that appear on the commercial - not Dick. And how about that recent new message on the electronic billboard northbound on Hwy 41 to Green Bay?

Now there's no way an ad during a sports event could be construed as a corporate contribution to a campaign. So have I missed these ads in the past (yeah, I don't see all the sports channels!)? Is it a little too much coincidence that they're showing up now?

Wow, that's a good one for the conspiracy theorists. Since SAB owns Miller and Miller owns Leinenkuegel there would have to be quite a loose system of controls throughout. But.... you never really know do you?

I'm not saying this is anything conspiratorial that would require getting around any set of 2010 MillerCoors marketing plans. Just saying... who knows what nudges marketing expenditures one way or the other. You never really know, do you?

My wife is from Chippewa Falls and she says the Leinenkugel family has been a key part of the local area for generations. Obviously it will be a big job to defeat Feingold and name recognition across the state will be a great start. PS: If you like beer and have not tried Leine's pick up a 6 pack. Even with Miller's owning them they brew some great tasting beer.

Chippewa Falls does not a state campaign make... though that's not saying I don't wish Mr. Leinenkugel well.

I have a little trouble with Leinenkugel running as a Reagan conservative. Didn't he just sign on to do Doyle's liberal bidding and now sees the field greener on the other side? Pretty cynical I know.
