I keep mine in my purse
Where is your copy of the U.S. Constitution and how often do you refer to it? Constitution Day, the anniversary of the passage of this revered document, will be celebrated here in the Fox Valley with a discussion of the 14th amendment. Try to rearrange today’s schedule (late notice, I know!) to attend.
The 14th Amendment: Past, Present and Future
There will be a discussion of the 14th amendment to the US constitution and issues in the news related to that amendment (e.g. birthright citizenship) at UW-Fox Valley on Friday, September 17th at noon in the Student Union.
UW-Fox Valley is located at 1478 Midway Rd. in Menasha. This event is free and open to the public.
The 14th Amendment to the Constitution was ratified on July 9, 1868, and granted citizenship to “all persons born or naturalized in the United States,” which included former slaves recently freed. This amendment was once a rallying point for Republicans as a way to take citizenship out of the realm of politics. Yet today, some Republicans have called for a repeal of the amendment and its grant of “birthright” citizenship as an answer to illegal immigration.
