One Wisconsin Now’s whining - predictable
Shouldn’t we be talking about the really critical issues of the day, instead of this stuff?
I guess ultra-left whining about voter fraud on the part of the liberals at One Wisconsin Now is predictable given that Feingold is down 11 points and tea partiers are revving up in strength across the country.
Or could it simply be the perfect distraction to SEIU thuggery made public?
When One Wisconsin Now campaigns for Photo ID at the polls, then you can believe any whining fabrications they want to advance, any destruction of personal character they want to undertake.
Here’s the Journal Sentinel piece that resulted from the One Wisconsin Now drama of a “press conference” claiming illegal plans by its political foes to prevent voter fraud in the upcoming election.
The group One Wisconsin Now said that it had obtained an audio recording of a tea party leader in June outlining plans to work with the state Republican Party and another group, Americans for Prosperity, and use postcards to verify voters' addresses as well as provide volunteer poll workers to challenge voters on Election Day.
Officials with the groups involved confirmed there had been discussions and that a trial run of 500 letters had been sent to Milwaukee voters. But they said that One Wisconsin was twisting their motives of trying to prevent voter fraud and that the plans had ultimately been shelved anyway.
Bill Christofferson, one of many mouthpieces for Scot Ross at One Wisconsin Now, details the left’s complaint.
A massive, coordinated and illegal plan to suppress Wisconsin voter turnout in November was exposed today by One Wisconsin Now (OWN)….
I don’t know the accurate, complete details (never, ever count on One Wisconsin Now for those) and I don’t know if the conservative groups involved can and should be defended. I do know that One Wisconsin Now is a well-funded, talented scummy far-left activist group, venomous in their reach and their impact. Read and listen to what they say – but beware of the potentially malodorous environs.

Jo, your partisanship really shines bright. I will grant that OWN is partisan too but venemous, malodorous, scummy?

Dean Weichmann (Tue Sep 21 07:04:08 2010)
Have you read any of their work Dean? Just curious...
No apologies for unabashed partisan nature of my opinion pieces.

Jo (Tue Sep 21 07:13:56 2010)
Yes I have Jo, I am not a regular reader though. I read yours all the time, it is more fun to argue here.
Seems to me you wrote a little while back about partisanship. I think some of the words were we should discuss like adults. Using such language as you have hardly fosters respectful discussion.

Dean Weichmann (Tue Sep 21 07:43:02 2010)
I thought long and hard about the words Dean. The credibility involved, yes, the partisanship. OWN is not a responsible organization and too often uses underhanded methods and attacks. Sometimes words need an edge. This was one of those days.

Jo (Tue Sep 21 07:58:58 2010)
Jo, I took a quick look a the article. It seemed reasonable to me, but I too am partisan. The problem is explained;
>>>The argument that Vote Caging should be illegal is that it could disenfranchise qualified voters simply because of the high possibility that data errors in the mailing list and voters' changing addresses could result in undelivered mail, rather than any problem with their qualifications. The fact that the mailings used to cage voters have had 'do not forward' printed on them resulted in disproportionately disfranchising of students away at college, citizens who move often, and soldiers overseas. In addition, targeting certain neighborhoods with a history of voting for one political party while not targeting areas dominated by the opposing party may lead to a racial component in the disqualifications which raises a serious legal issue under the Voting Rights Act.<<<
So, there does appear to be the possibility that this is partisan, and underhanded. Do you agree?

Dean Weichmann (Tue Sep 21 08:33:23 2010)
Gee Dean, you're putting me through my paces. I readily acknowledge the partisan nature of the reported activities of the GOP and right-leaning groups - as do they. As I mention, I can't verify the legality or ethics of the situation. Acknowledged partisanship is not the problem. When partisanship is advanced with lies, half-truths, viciousness and/or slandering, that's a problem on either side.

***Jo, your partisanship really shines bright. I will grant that OWN is partisan too but venemous, malodorous, scummy?***
Have you not realized that Jo tends to the right? This, after all is not straight news. It's Jo's blog and she gives her OPINIONS. If you wish to read straight news you'll have to get it from the Post Crescent. Bwahahahahaha!
Sorry, straight news and Post Crescent in the same sentence just tickles my funnybone.

C. R. Stevenson (Tue Sep 21 10:17:18 2010)
As one who attended the meeting that the recording was made from, let me say that indeed we were trying to disenfranchise certain voters. Those who allegedly resided in vacant lots, those who "lived" at the address of others, without the other occupants' knowledge, those who came by the busload to the polling place on buses with out of state license plates, and yes, the poor college student who was voting for the third time. And yes, all of that and more DID go on last time.
Note that even if struck from the list, voters STILL have the opportunity for same day registration. So who really is disenfranchised in all this? Well if OWN has there way, it will be all who LEGITIMATELY cast their votes. Instead of criticizing this effort, and slandering those who support it, why, in the name of honesty and integrity, do not the Democrat Party and OWN help insure the integrity of the vote? The answer should be obvious-they WANT these fraudulent votes to count so they can continue to steal elections.
Pretty petty, obvious, and crooked, if you want my unbiased opinion. All this means that efforts should be redoubled, so that the lefties are not allowed to steal another election. (YEAH YEAH, Republicans occasionally do likewise. 2 Wrongs do not make a right.

Ken Van Doren (Tue Sep 21 10:59:51 2010)
Found it with a search of the blog;
Jo;
>>>If this country of ours is going to get out of its deep funk, Americans must be courageous – be adults and discuss, disagree about this stuff like adults.<<<

Dean Weichmann (Tue Sep 21 14:36:41 2010)
Hey Dean, it's great you're using FoxPolitics' search function! It's a treasure trove! You're right (I was right...?) about the need to discuss like adults. Count me reminded.

Jo (Tue Sep 21 16:42:54 2010)
Jo,
Where's the beef? Just because someone has mismatched records doesn't make them a fraudulent voter. The huge body of evidence in recent times (Florida being a prime example) shows that voters are disenfranchised by many order of magnitude more than they are actually ineligible to vote but in fact casting a vote. What you are doing is nothing more than a modern poll tax. "sorry but that's the law" has been an excuse used by dictators and bureaucrats over centuries to justify their injustice. No, you don't give a damn about the real integrity of the system you simply want the bureaucrats to do your dirty work for you. It is true that people who move, poor, who get divorced, who have cognitive issues are more likely to have more challenges being successfully registered than the stable person who lives in the same home for 30 years. But, that shouldn't disenfranchise them. The Constitution doesn't say that someone who has a vacant lot as an address (whether in error or not) doesn't lose the right to vote does it? You are relying on technology and databases to determine someone's basic rights. And this, from someone who wants to get the state off people backs?

dave allen (Tue Sep 21 17:47:00 2010)
If you want to act like Adults, then you must stop playing games with the election process and the power brokers of the Republican Party. Uhuuum, yiu know who yoiu are. Until then, it will be the saame crowd of RINO's going to Washington and Madison that will continue the non sense of the one party system.
Assuming the Republicans win big in November, it will be the same garbage that Gorge Bush and Tom Delay gave us. the voters keep falling for

Bill (Tue Sep 21 21:30:42 2010)
Dave, I will just say I'm convinced that same day registration with no photo ID required poses unique challenges in Wisconsin.
