Dohnal: The Last Week is Crucial
I remember 1960, Nixon was ahead and with the help of the crooked Daley machine and the crooked LBJ machine Kennedy won. In 1968 Nixon was way ahead but Humphrey closed at the last minute and it was a nail biter.
In 1980 Reagan and Carter were tied till the last weekend when it broke for Reagan. In 2000 Bush was 9 points ahead and the last weekend it all blew up.
We must not take anything for granted.
For US Senate we have a far left "Maverick" that produces nothing for Wisconsin. Feingold rails against NAFTA losing jobs but never talks about the jobs that Free Trade creates of much higher quality. He never talks about the fact that he and his staff never do anything to bring jobs to Wisconsin but spend all of their time on far left issues.
Dick Morris calls him: "the biggest flake in the Senate, no one follows him." Running against Senator Feingold is Ron Johnson, a level headed Oshkosh businessman that can bring fiscal sanity to the US. Who is your choice?
Incidentally Feingold beat Bob Kasten for the US Senate. Kasten is still bringing jobs to Wisconsin through Oshkosh Truck; Feingold has not lifted a finger to help them or other companies.
Few people understand how bad of a shape that Jim Doyle, Jim Sullivan and other liberal Democrats have put Wisconsin in through their profligate spending. We have a $2.7 billion structural deficit, We are getting $3.5 billion from the Feds that will shortly stop, the Unemployment Fund is a $billion in the hole, Medicaid and Badgercare are going deeply into the hole, spending increases for the next budget will be about $5 billion or so, so together we are close to $10 billion in the hole. It is time to stop digging.
Scott Walker has balanced the budget under horrible situations inherited from the liberals in Milwaukee county. The pensions, salaries and benefits for public employees have overwhelmed the system and the liberals want more.
Can Barrett fix it? He is a business as usual guy who will do little to stop our descent into disaster. Debt has quadrupled under Jim Doyle and Jim Sullivan, Barrett is a carbon copy of them.
What can we do the last week? First, call and talk to all of your fiends and get them to vote. Forward this email around the state. Go door to door in your neighborhood handing out literature. Stick up some yard signs, mail out literature to your friends who might not vote but lastly, on Monday make sure you help get every "Whig to the Polls" as Lincoln asked.
Finally get your flu shots and us older guys a shingles shot and pneumovax shot. We are sick enough from what has happened to the country, we don't need any epidemics.
