Newly-Elected Legislators to Hold Town Halls on Job Creation, State Spending – Dec. 13, Dec. 20

Brown County residents will be sending four new faces to the State Assembly next year – State Representatives-elect Chad Weininger, André Jacque, John Klenke and Jim Steineke. The four newly-elected Assemblymen will be a part of a GOP freshman class of 25 – over 40 percent of the 60-member Republican majority- giving them an unusual amount of clout for first term lawmakers.

All four campaigned on a pledge to control state spending, lower taxes and work to get the economy growing again. The quartet is teaming up to hold two town hall meetings next month to solicit input from Brown County citizens on the best ways to meet those priorities.

The first meeting will be held on Monday, December 13 and will focus on jobs and the economy. The Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce is helping to organize the meeting as the freshman legislators are hoping to get ideas from local business owners on ways state government can promote an economic climate that is conducive to job creation.

“We know the future of our area and our state is dependent upon getting people back to work in good sustainable jobs that will strengthen our community,” said Weininger.

“We want to hear from local job creators about the unnecessary obstacles state government has placed in the path of job creation so we can remove them,” said Klenke.

The second town hall will be held one week later on December 20. That meeting will focus on wasteful state spending and taxes with the goal of hearing directly from taxpayers on their priorities for balancing the state budget. The John K. MacIver Institute for Public Policy President Brett Healy will begin the meeting with a budget overview to help put in perspective the fiscal challenges facing the state.

“For too long, state government has exempted itself from the hard decisions that families and businesses have had to make with their own budgets, and we now have one of the worst deficits in the nation to go with one of the highest tax burdens,” said Jacque.

“The state simply has to learn to spend less and we are looking forward to hearing directly from taxpayers on their ideas to get our budget back in balance,” said Steineke.

Both meetings will be held in the Green Bay City Council Chambers and begin at 5:30PM.
