Your turn to dream about the riverfront...
Straight out of a Hollywood movie, young man comes back to the streets and river of his childhood, surrounded by an aura of romance and beauty. And like the ‘Music Man,’ Mark Geall comes to town yes, to hopefully make a buck, but also creating an excitement built around the issues of the day. And today, that issue is environmental sustainability.
Geall and his company, Tanesay Development, are seeking the public’s help with plans for a prize swath of river real estate running under Appleton’s College Avenue bridge on the south side of the meandering Fox River. Set the date aside and join Geall a week from today.
Tuesday, June 19 at 5:30 p.m. at the Telulah Park Pavilion, 1300 E. Newberry St., Appleton. Rain or shine.
RiverHeath, the development. Even sounds like a Hollywood movie.
But here’s the meat of it for me. Geall’s exciting project is a riverfront development that’s just as it’s supposed to be – a heavily contaminated industrial site of old, cleaned up and ready for its 21st century use – some combination of “residential, office and retail in a dense core with a green space, or ‘heath’, in the center”, “at the forefront of sustainability, embracing the natural setting of the site and U.S. Green Building Council LEED certification.”
And all of that with a riverwalk, walking trails throughout and plenty of public access to the river. Really great stuff.
A couple photos of the old M-I Drilling site – and conceptual ‘future site possibilities’ – are on the RiverHeath web site linked above, that will continue to be updated “as RiverHeath, the development, takes shape.”
So take the family to Telulah Park, next Tuesday and get the first look at Geall’s exciting ideas for the site – and more importantly, add ideas of your own. You’ll be just up the trail from stunning river views and the beautiful, reclaimed and ready-to-develop property.
